WORLD ALZHEIMER’S DAY AND SUBSTITUTE HEALTH CARE DECISION MAKING IN ONTARIO

September 21 is World Alzheimer’s Day. Alzheimer’s Disease is a type of dementia that affects cognitive and functional abilities, emotions and moods, behaviour and physical abilities. It is the most common cause of dementia, accounting for 60-80% of cases. Alzheimer’s Disease affected half a million Canadians in 2018, and that number is expected to rise to 937,000 by 2031. Current treatments can slow dementia symptoms and improve quality of life for those living with the disease.
